Court Grants Bail to Former Aviation Minister Sirika and Co-Defendants in N2.7bn Fraud Case

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Hadi Abubakar Sirika, along with his daughter, Fatimah Hadi Sirika, and son-in-law, Jalal Hamma. They were charged in connection with an alleged N2.7 billion fraud linked to the Nigerian Air project by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

During the court proceedings before Justice Sylvanus Orji, all defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges presented against them. The court, led by Justice Orji, granted bail to each defendant in the sum of N100 million with two sureties each, one of whom must possess a landed property with valid land titles within the Federal Capital Territory.

Additionally, Justice Orji mandated the sureties to depose to an affidavit of means and prohibited the defendants from traveling outside the country without the court’s permission. Failure to meet the bail conditions would result in remand in a correctional facility.

The trial dates have been set for June 10, 11, and 20.
