Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court has issued a stern warning, hinting at the indefinite adjournment of the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Nyako emphasized her readiness to proceed with the trial once the defense is fully prepared, responding to concerns raised by Kanu’s lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor, regarding the adequacy of preparation time.
Ejimakor expressed dismay over the challenges faced in adequately preparing Kanu for the accelerated hearing, citing difficulties arising from the facilities provided for their preparations and alleging the presence of hidden cameras by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In rebuttal, the prosecution lawyer, Awomolo, urged the court to dismiss the defense’s application, citing insufficient grounds.
The trial judge, Justice Nyako, scheduled a ruling on both applications for May 20, emphasizing the need for the prosecution to commence the trial promptly.
In a brief recess, Nyako allowed for a quick meeting between Kanu and his defense team.
