Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, famously known as Evans, the convicted billionaire kidnapper, along with his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, have opted for a plea bargain regarding amended charges of murder and attempted kidnapping brought against them.
Scheduled for re-arraignment on a five-count amended charge including murder, attempt to murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping, the proceedings hit a snag due to Evans’ counsel’s absence.
Although the prosecution informed the court of the defence counsel’s awareness of the re-arraignment and the presence of another defence counsel, Mr. Nelson Onyejaka, the primary lawyer’s absence remained unexplained.
While acknowledging the defendants’ plea bargain application, the prosecution informed the court of ongoing consideration by the Attorney-General. Additionally, due to the conviction of the fourth defendant and the death of the third defendant in prison, an amended charge was presented.
Consequently, Justice Adenike Cokers adjourned the case until June 13, emphasizing Evans’ responsibility to ensure his counsel’s presence in court.
With the saga unfolding amidst legal maneuvers, stakeholders await further developments in Evans’ legal saga, underscoring the complexities of navigating the justice system.
