Biden Apologizes to Zelensky Over Delay in Military Aid Approval

U.S. President Joe Biden publicly apologized to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the extensive delay in approving a crucial military aid package. The delay, spanning several months, saw the hold-up of a substantial $61 billion aid package intended for Ukraine’s defense efforts. Biden, speaking during a meeting with Zelensky in Paris, expressed his regret over the prolonged process, emphasizing his commitment to rectifying the situation. The aid package, finally approved by Congress in late April, faced obstacles primarily attributed to conservative members of Congress, according to Biden.

During their exchange, Biden assured Zelensky of unwavering support, stating, “I’m not gonna walk away from you,” underscoring the enduring partnership between the two nations. This public display of solidarity comes amidst heightened tensions in the region and underscores the importance of U.S.-Ukraine relations in the face of geopolitical challenges.

In addition to the diplomatic discussions, Biden and Zelensky participated in the commemoration of D-Day, honoring the Allied landings in Normandy, France, marking 80 years since the pivotal events of World War II. The joint participation in this historic event further symbolizes the shared commitment to freedom and democracy between the United States and Ukraine.
