The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is poised to suspend the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, for alleged anti-party activities. This was revealed by the party’s National Chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, during a press briefing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
Njoku accused Governor Soludo of frustrating efforts to restore unity within the party, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling recognizing the current National Working Committee (NWC) led by Njoku. According to the chairman, Soludo has persistently engaged in activities that undermine the party’s leadership and interests.
The NWC, he announced, will release the names of members involved in anti-party activities, including Soludo, on Thursday, 26th September 2024.
Amidst the ongoing political tension, Njoku emphasized that APGA has not yet endorsed any candidate for the upcoming **Anambra governorship election**. He insisted that all aspirants, including Soludo, must go through a transparent and fair primary process to secure the party’s nomination.
Njoku said, “Anyone seeking to be the governor of Anambra State must participate in the party primaries. There will be no shortcuts.”
Chief Njoku highlighted the series of legal battles aimed at challenging his leadership of the party, despite a Supreme Court ruling affirming his position as National Chairman. He criticized attempts made to block his recognition by the **Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)** and mentioned that certain party members had filed suits behind his back.
“They have gone behind our back to the Court of Appeal, despite the clear judgment from the Supreme Court that my removal was unjustifiable. These actions are being taken to disrupt the party’s stability, but we remain resolute,” Njoku stated.

He expressed disappointment in Soludo’s role in the crisis, accusing him of attempting to manipulate the system to his advantage.
Njoku didn’t hold back in criticizing Governor Soludo’s actions, accusing him of attempting to pass laws that would limit the party’s ability to field candidates for key positions in Anambra State.
He remarked, “Soludo seems to think he’s bigger than the party, but no one is bigger than APGA. The governor has gone too far, and if he continues, we will have no choice but to take drastic measures, even if it means suspending him.”
Njoku added that suspending an elected governor is not something the party takes lightly but stressed that the NWC is determined to ensure that discipline is maintained within the party ranks.
While calling for peace and unity within APGA, Njoku stressed that the party would not hesitate to suspend members, including top officials, if their actions continue to threaten the integrity of the party. He expressed concern that Soludo’s actions were pushing the party to the brink, but reiterated his desire to see the party resolve its internal conflicts without drastic actions.
“We want peace, but we will not be toothless. If Governor Soludo or any other member believes they are above the party, they will be suspended,” Njoku warned.
The APGA chairman concluded by stating that the NWC had reached a consensus to suspend about 80% of the members involved in anti-party activities, and the list, which includes prominent figures, would be released shortly.
