The Anambra State Ministry of Health has dismantled an illegal operation involved in the production of counterfeit wine and beverages, mimicking popular authentic brands. This bust occurred in Nkpor, a town near Onitsha, as part of a coordinated effort with the state’s paramilitary agency, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade).
Seven suspects were arrested during a decisive raid, which led to the immediate closure of the illicit factory. Authorities discovered the syndicate had been mass-producing fake wines and beverages for years, flooding local markets with substandard and unsafe products that put consumers’ health at risk.

According to a press release from the Anambra State Ministry of Health, the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Presidential Taskforce on economic sabotage and oil vandalism. Investigations are ongoing to uncover other syndicates involved in the distribution of fake products, which have caused health complications among the citizens of Anambra.
The government has vowed to intensify efforts in curbing such illegal activities to ensure the safety of consumers and restore confidence in the markekplace.
