Anambra Police Commissioner Intensifies Security Against Illegal Sit-At-Home Orders, Launches Manhunt for Attackers in Nibo and Ifite

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ramped up security efforts against illegal sit-at-home orders and organized police patrols across various parts of the state. This operation, aimed at combating violence associated with these orders, follows a recent wave of attacks in the Nibo and Ifite communities that left multiple casualties.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, Commissioner Itam personally led patrols to assess security across all 21 local government areas. During the patrols, he also visited several police divisions to strengthen coordination and evaluate local security needs.

Commissioner Itam further emphasized that investigations are underway, with authorities pursuing leads on suspects connected to the recent violence in Nibo and Ifite, which resulted in the deaths of at least 15 individuals and injuries to several others.

During his visit to Awka South Local Government Area, the Commissioner urged local leaders, including community executives, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders, to actively support police efforts. He called for greater vigilance, urging communities to act as one another’s guardians and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.

SP Ikenga reported that the patrol covered areas such as Ogidi, Obosi, Okpoko, Harbour, and Awada divisions. Residents were encouraged to promptly report unusual activities or suspicious individuals via the command’s emergency line (07039194332).

The Commissioner’s anti-sit-at-home initiative reflects an ongoing commitment to collaborative, sustainable policing practices across Anambra State, with a focus on preventing further violence and fostering safer communities.
