Anambra Nurse Admits to Scalding 13-Year-Old Nephew with Hot Iron as Punishment

A 38-year-old nurse from Anambra State, Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe, has confessed to using a heated iron on her young househelp, claiming it was a form of discipline. The shocking incident occurred in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area, where Nzekwe admitted that she resorted to this harsh method after accusing the 13-year-old boy of stealing her money.

The case came to light when officials from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, led by Commissioner Hon. Ify Obinabo, apprehended the nurse. During the interrogation, Nzekwe revealed that she had placed the iron on a stove to heat it before using it to burn the boy’s back. According to her, this was intended to force a confession out of him regarding the stolen money.

In her statement, Nzekwe said, “I have endured a lot because of this boy. After undergoing surgery, I returned home to find my money missing. To discipline him, I didn’t use electricity; instead, I heated the iron on a stove.”

The ministry also discovered that the boy, who is her nephew, had been frequently locked up and deprived of food. Commissioner Obinabo strongly condemned Nzekwe’s actions, emphasizing that such inhumane behavior will not be tolerated in Anambra State under Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.

Following her confession, Nzekwe was handed over to the police for further investigation and legal action.
