Dr. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the governor of Anambra, has urged women to enter the political sphere in order to alter the political landscape and bring about democratic government in the nation.
When Soludo invited female health professionals to celebrate International Women’s Day, which is observed on March 8 every year in 2024, in Awka, she made the call.
The governor’s wife claimed that women who were active in politics would be better able to marshal political will and resources to confront existential concerns that women in society face.
“It is sad that women are still dealing with cultural issues like female genital mutilation, societal pressure, molestation, battery, abuses, stigma and short-changing rules.
“We have a big role to play in addressing these problems and achieving the desired results. But we cannot play that role if we do not get involved in politics.

“The era is gone when politics is seen as a dirty game or men-only affair. Women can change the dynamics. We certainly can, so that we can be actively involved in key decisions that affect us,” she said.
She urged girls to aspire to be like strong female role models who have shattering glass ceilings to leave their historical imprints on national and international record books.
“You, too, can. Being a woman gives you that extra motivation to think big, dream big, and achieve big. Remember that there is never a limit to what you can achieve as a woman.”
In addition, she urged female health professionals to promote a culture of healthy living in their communities, workplaces, and homes.
Mrs. Soludo praised the current government for its investments in women, citing the free education policy and the state’s free prenatal and delivery services.
She believed that strong women’s vision, intelligence, and persistence were necessary to create a livable and wealthy homeland.
