The American International School of Abuja has refunded $760,910.84 to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stemming from an investigation into former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s financial activities.
Bello, currently facing prosecution by the anti-graft agency over alleged misappropriation of N80.2 billion state funds, was implicated in depositing $845,852 in school fees for his five children.
Despite vehemently denying the accusations, Bello stands accused of embezzling funds from the Kogi State Government coffers. His defiance against the allegations and threats of legal action underscore the gravity of the situation.
A recent court order demanded EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede’s appearance to address allegations of disobeying court directives, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Documents submitted by EFCC reveal that Bello’s payments, spanning a 14-year period from 2021 to 2035, were intended to secure education for his children at the American International School.
