Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has shared that his focus on driving industrialization in Nigeria is the primary reason he has chosen not to own properties in London or the United States. Dangote made this revelation during a press briefing at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
Dangote emphasized that owning houses abroad would distract him from his mission to make Nigeria an industrial powerhouse. He stated, “The reason I don’t have a London or American house is solely because I wanted to focus on industrialization in Nigeria. If I had those houses, there would be one reason or the other for me to visit those places, thereby causing distractions.”
Dangote’s commitment to Nigeria is evident in his living arrangements. Besides his home in Lagos, he has another in his hometown, Kano, and a rented property in Abuja. “I am very passionate about the Nigerian dream,” he added.

Fatima Dangote, Group Executive Director of Commercial Operations, lauded her father’s dedication and resilience. “I have not seen anyone as hardworking as my father. Sometimes I wonder how he never gives up. I wish we had a few more men like my father in Nigeria. The country would be a better place,” she remarked.
In related news, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) now holds a 7.2% stake in the Dangote Refinery, down from an initial 20%. This reduction is due to NNPC’s failure to meet its financial obligations by June.
