Al Nassr, Led by Ronaldo, Knocked Out of Asian Champions League Quarter-finals

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s extra-time goal, Al Nassr suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals, losing on penalties to Al Ain on Monday.

Ronaldo, the 39-year-old Portuguese superstar, was the lone scorer for Al Nassr in the penalty shootout, but it wasn’t enough as his Saudi side bowed out 3-1 on penalties, following a 4-4 aggregate scoreline.

The match in Riyadh was filled with tension, with Ronaldo missing a golden opportunity from close range during normal time. Despite his crucial penalty conversion in the 118th minute, the hosts couldn’t capitalize on their momentum.

The shootout saw Al Nassr falter, with Brazilian defender Alex Telles, formerly of Manchester United, among those unable to convert their spot-kicks.

In the upcoming quarter-finals on Tuesday, Ulsan will battle Jeonbuk in an all-Korean clash tied at 1-1. Meanwhile, Saudi teams Al Ittihad and Al Hilal will face off, with Al Hilal holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.

On Wednesday, Harry Kewell’s Yokohama F-Marinos will host Chinese side Shandong Taishan, holding a 2-1 lead from the initial encounter.
