Nollywood actress and producer, Adanma Luke, has publicly pleaded for forgiveness from Nigerians following a tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of actor John Odonwodo, known as Junior Pope, and four other crew members. The incident occurred while they were working on the set of her film, “The Other Side of Life.”
In a heartfelt video posted on her Instagram page, Luke expressed her deep sorrow and revealed that she has been battling depression since the accident in April. “I’m gradually losing my life,” she confessed, urging for prayers and understanding from the public.
Addressing the backlash she has faced on social media, Luke stated, “I’m just here to say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Nigerians. I’m sorry for the loss of your loved ones. I’m deeply saddened that this tragedy occurred during my production. It’s something I wish I could undo, but it was beyond my control.”

Adanma Luke shared how the incident has affected her emotionally and professionally, stating that she has been unable to work or even reach out for job opportunities due to her overwhelming grief. “I didn’t understand what depression was until this happened. Now, I feel like I’m losing my life slowly,” she said. She also mentioned her efforts to support the families of those who lost their lives, despite her own struggles.
Recounting the events leading up to the accident, Luke explained that she had requested a safer location for the movie shoot and was assured by her team that the area was secure. “I hadn’t been to Asaba in two years before this incident. I asked why there were no life jackets, and I was told that’s how it’s usually done there. They assured me it was safe, as many have crossed without incidents before,” she elaborated.
Following the incident, the Actors Guild of Nigeria imposed a ban on actors from participating in any of Luke’s productions until further notice, a decision that further added to her distress.
