Abia State University in Uturu has suspended Dr. Udochukwu Ndukwe, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, for alleged sexual harassment involving a female student. The suspension, lasting three months, comes with a reduction of his salary by half, as stated in a letter dated July 30, 2024, and signed by the registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu.
According to the letter, a panel has been established to investigate the accusations, which have been described as a significant embarrassment to the university. Dr. Ndukwe has previously faced similar allegations of harassment, intimidation, and extortion from female students in the department.
A video circulating on social media shows Dr. Ndukwe on his knees, being interrogated by several individuals. Sources indicate that a final-year female student, who claimed to have been harassed by Ndukwe for over two years, orchestrated a sting operation at a hotel in Umuahia, resulting in the lecturer being caught in a compromising position.

The video also shows Dr. Ndukwe with bloodied lips and visible bruises, pleading for the incident not to be exposed. The university’s response includes an immediate suspension and the setup of a panel to conduct a thorough investigation.
Dr. Elendu’s letter emphasized the university’s commitment to addressing the issue and instructed Dr. Ndukwe to hand over any university property in his possession to his department head. Efforts by PUNCH Metro to contact Dr. Elendu for further comments were unsuccessful.
