Abia State Government To Launch New Contributory Pension Scheme For Civil Servants

According to Mr. Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, the Abia State Government intends to adopt a Pension Contributory Scheme for its civil staff. This declaration was made on Tuesday at a press conference held in the Government House, Umuahia, after the State Executive Meeting. Significant progress has been made in getting ready for the switch to the new plan, according to Kanu.

Kanu expressed the state government’s resolve to put policies into place that will simplify the pension payment procedure and provide retirees a feeling of community. He said that the government had issued an order requiring pension payments to be made on the 28th of every month, in accordance with the payment schedule for state employees who are civil servants.

He also announced a major shift in policy: instead of receiving only half of their monthly pension, pensioners would now receive the entire amount due. Kanu said that the pension arrears had just been paid out by the government to the retirees, but he also said that some had been unintentionally left out. He stated that a support desk has been established by the Ministry of Finance to handle such anomalies. The goal of this effort is to address concerns about pension arrears payments, particularly some individuals’ oversight. He underlined that the purpose of these steps is to ensure that the pension payment management process runs smoothly and successfully.
