Abia, NRCRI To Establish Agro-processing Zone

The National Root Crops Research Institute Umudike and the Abia State government have partnered to create an agro-processing zone at Industrial Park, Owaza.

In Umuahia, the state capital, Monica Ironkwe, the commissioner for agriculture, made this announcement while hosting the state chapter of the Nigerian Association of Rice Farmers and Rice Mill Owners.

She stated that cocoa, palm oil, cassava, maize, and “to add value to other farm produce” are among the products that would be processed in the park, which is well situated in the Ukwa West local government.

 

In order to create an agro-processing zone in Industrial Park, Owaza, the Abia State government has partnered with the National Root Crops Research Institute Umudike.

This was disclosed by Monica Ironkwe, the commissioner of agriculture, while she was in Umuahia, the state capital, hosting the state chapter of the Rice Farmers and Rice Mill Owners Association of Nigeria.

According to her, produce such as cocoa, palm oil, cassava, maize, and “to add value to other farm produce” will be processed in the park, which is well situated in the Ukwa West local government.

 

Prior to this, the chapter’s chairman, Jack Okwuonu, made a plea to the administration to help them by setting up automated milling equipment in addition to other incentives to raise the caliber of their produce.

After applauding the administration’s agriculture policies and agenda, Okwuonu said they had come to get to know the commissioner and figure out how they might collaborate with the ministry.
