Members of Abia State’s Muslim community, led by the Abia State Muslim Council, paid traditional Salah respect to Governor Alex Otti on Wednesday in his country residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA.
During the visit, the Council, lead by Abia State’s Chief Imam, Sheikh Ali Ukiwo, explained that the 30-day fasting period was an exercise in which Muslims begged forgiveness from Allah and resolved to change their ways. They thanked Allah for using the Governor to institute security, peace and decent leadership in the state and for returning the dreams of Abia people after more than 20 years.
The Muslims utilised the opportunity to complain to the Governor about injustices committed by a previous administration, which reportedly reassigned several plots of land made available to the Muslim community 10 years ago as a burial place. Sheikh Ukiwo regretted that the lands were reallocated to individuals without notification or a return for money previously paid, and he begged the Governor to act.
Governor Alex Otti congratulated guests on successfully completing the Ramadan fast. He thanked Muslims for their support during the last governorship election and promised to provide quality leadership to make them and the state proud. Otti assured the Muslim community that his government will not discriminate against them.
He also identified the Muslim community as an essential component of his government.
