A nine-member full Visitation Panel to Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) has been inaugurated by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who has charged the panel to do its duties impartially and fairly.
Speaking at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti recalled that for many years, ABSU had been a model for research excellence in keeping with the goals of the institution’s founding fathers. However, he also noted that sadly, things have fallen apart, which is why the Visitation Panel was necessary.
In his speech, “Returning to the true path of excellence,” the governor declared that he would not stand by and watch things get worse because he knows how important the institution is to the state’s identity.
He said “We have a responsibility to return the institution to its rightful place as a centre of excellence in the country and beyond. I have said on numerous occasions, that our singular mission in government is to reset Abia to become the number one state in the country. For us, what goes on in our university must represent the excellence of our aspiration”.
