The Court of Appeal in Abuja has intervened in the contempt charge against the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, over the planned trial of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The controversy stemmed from a summon by Justice Jamil Abdullahi of the Kogi State High Court, directing the EFCC Chairman to appear before him on May 13 regarding alleged disobedience to court orders related to Bello’s case.
Bello filed a suit and motion asserting that the EFCC Chairman violated a court order by attempting to arrest him in Abuja. He also alleged that the EFCC disregarded a court ruling by securing an ex parte order for his arrest and trial on corruption charges.
In response, Bello initiated contempt proceedings against the EFCC Chairman, leading to Justice Abdullahi’s summon.

However, the EFCC Chairman appealed the summon, filing motions for a stay of execution and for substituted service of court processes on Bello.
The Court of Appeal, led by Justice Joseph Oyewole, granted both motions and fixed May 20 for the substantive appeal to be heard.
The ruling reflects the ongoing legal battle surrounding Bello’s trial and underscores the complexity of legal proceedings in high-profile cases.
