In a shocking turn of events, a 41-year-old man named Nwalobi Fredrick, an artisan from Ekwulobia, has confessed to impregnating his 16-year-old in-law. The incident came to light after the girl’s family reported it to the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner in Awka.
Contrary to the suspect’s earlier claims, the 16-year-old girl revealed that the incident began after she was taken into her in-laws’ care in late January to complete her secondary education following the death of her mother. She stated that Mr. Nwalobi first had intercourse with her just a day after she moved into his home and has been taking advantage of her ever since.
During further questioning, she disclosed that she is already four months pregnant. Unfortunately, since she became pregnant, her in-law has refused to take responsibility for putting her in that situation.
In his defense, the 41-year-old man blamed the devil for his actions. He claimed that he does not have the financial means to care for the girl, as he now has his own family to provide for after remarrying in April following the death of his first wife.
Despite the suspect’s pleas, the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo, handed him over to the Ekwulobia Divisional police for further investigation.
