The Ebonyi State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained three kids for allegedly attempting to rape another minor. The State Commandant of the Corps, Elijah Willie, confirmed this to journalists on Saturday in Abakaliki, saying two of the suspects are 15 and 13. He added that the command was tracking down a third suspect who was currently on the run, and that the incident occurred in the state’s Ishielu Local Government Area.
“They will be transferred to relevant juvenile authorities for necessary rehabilitation.
“There have been increasing cases of minors engaged in such acts and it reflects the moral decadence in the society.
“I urge relevant stakeholders to take drastic actions to check the trend for the sake of our youths,” he said.
However, one of the youngsters denied any role in the incident, claiming that he just rebuked the victim for abusing him. In another event, the NSCDC commandant announced the arrest of two suspects for alleged electricity wire damage at the Ebonyi International Shopping Mall. According to him, the suspects, 21 and 22, are from Amasiri in the state’s Afikpo North Local Government Area.
“Cases of vandalism are rampant in Ebonyi and we urge relevant stakeholders to sensitise the people, especially youths, to stop engaging in such acts.
“The NSCDC is seriously warning vandals to repent or face the full wrath of the command,” he warned.
He noted that the suspects would be prosecuted after the completion of investigation.
