Enugu Government to Give Late Nollywood Icons, Mr Ibu and Junior Pope, Dignified Farewell

Enugu State authorities are collaborating with the bereaved families of renowned Nollywood figures, John Okafor (Mr Ibu), and Obumneme Odonwodo (Junior Pope), to organize fitting burials for the departed stars.

According to Mr. Aka Eze Aka, the Commissioner for Information and Communication in Enugu State, the demise of these beloved actors has deeply saddened both the local government and the nation. The state is committed to honoring their memory with respectful ceremonies.

Regarding Junior Pope’s arrangements, Aka emphasized that while no specific date has been set, the government is in constant communication with the family to ensure their preferences are respected during this difficult time.

As for Mr. Ibu’s funeral, scheduled for June 28, the state government will be actively involved in the proceedings.

Aka clarified that the delay in official response to Junior Pope’s passing was due to uncertainties surrounding the circumstances of his demise, compounded by a lack of immediate contact with his family. The state sought to handle the situation with sensitivity and empathy.

Enugu State has opened a condolence register to allow fans and well-wishers to express their condolences, recognizing the widespread impact of these losses on the nation’s entertainment community.

Governor Peter Mbah remains steadfast in his commitment to bolstering the local entertainment industry, with initiatives like the construction of entertainment villages aimed at retaining and supporting talented individuals within the state.

Junior Pope, a native of Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti Council Area of Enugu State, tragically lost his life alongside three colleagues in a boat accident on the River Niger on April 10. Meanwhile, Mr. Ibu, from Amuri in Nkanu West Council Areas of Enugu State, passed away on March 2 after battling with various health challenges.
