SON Seeks Army’s Support To Checkmate substandard Products In The Southeast

In order to stop the spread of inferior goods in the Southeast geopolitical zone, the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) on Friday requested assistance from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu.

When he visited Brig.-Gen. Murtala Abu, the Commander of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu State Coordinator of SON, Engr. Peter Ameh informed him that the division needed cooperation, particularly in Enugu State.

Ameh clarified that SON sought cooperation, especially with regard to intelligence exchange, monitoring, and enforcement efforts that benefit the organization.

He said that cooperation was also desired, particularly with regard to border operations between states and SON’s overall security support in Enugu State.

The coordinator of SON emphasized that the organization was committed to forging closer cooperation between all security agencies and sister law enforcement authorities around the nation.

He voiced worries about the detrimental effects on the state of Enugu’s economy of the constant flood of inferior and counterfeit goods.

“The visit is to strengthen the collaborative relationship between SON and the garrison in fighting the menace of substandard products produced locally or smuggled into the country.

“The impact of substandard products in the markets, including at army’s `Mammy Market’, are of huge risk to consumers,’’ he said.
