Labour Party Threatens To Declare Enugu Lawmakers’ Seats Vacant

Legislators in Enugu State who wish to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, face the possibility of having their seats declared vacant by the Labour Party, LP.

The warning was posted on Tuesday on Casmir Agbo’s Facebook page, the chairman of the Enugu State LP.

The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, is thought to be in charge of the state government after winning the March 18 governor’s race.

Some members of the house are planning to switch to the ruling PDP, and there are continuous political maneuvers taking place.

However, Agbo is now saying that the party was aware of the antics of some LP members of HOA who want to decamp to PDP.

” We are aware of the antics of some LP members of HOA who want to decamp to PDP. Their seats will be declared vacant,” he said.

Despite winning fewer seats in the house, PDP still holds the reins of power in the state legislature.

Remember that the party won 14 of the 24 seats in the list that the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, produced during the general election of 2023?

Rex Achumie, the INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Enugu State, released the list that included the names, parties, and total number of votes received by the incoming members on March 18.

According to the commission, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has the remaining 10 seats.
