House Of Reps Propose Ebonyi Polytechnic Be Converted To University Of Technology

Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Ebonyi, could become a University of Technology, according to a proposal by the House of Representatives Committee on University Education.

 

During a public hearing on the bill for the institution’s improvement, Rep. Abubakar Fulata, the Chairman of the House Committee on University Education, revealed this.

 

Fulata underlined that before legislation is passed, input from the general public and important stakeholders is needed in order to convert the polytechnic into a university.

 

He emphasized that the purpose of the hearing was to give the public and stakeholders a chance to improve the bill and make sure it meets Nigerians’ expectations when it becomes law.

The meeting was formally began by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who urged the committee to carry out thorough investigation and produce a reliable report. In his capacity as the House Deputy Minority Whip, Rep. Ibezimako Ozodinobi, represented Abbas, he emphasized the significance of high-quality education as a cornerstone of Nigerian development.

 

The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Iduma Igariwe, contended that the government wouldn’t face any additional financial burdens if Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic were upgraded to a Federal University of Science and Technology. Rather, it would accelerate growth and development in a number of economic sectors by supporting science and technology education across the country.

 

The Senate has been proposing bills to convert polytechnics into universities throughout the years.
