Crisis Rocks ESUT Over Alleged Imposition In Forthcoming SUG Election

At the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), there is unease with the purported excessive meddling by the management in the election of the Students Union Government (SUG).

This Thursday is the planned day for the election. The disqualification of certain well-liked candidates, though, has unnerved the organization.

Students at the college who are upset are now pleading with Dr. Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, to step in immediately to prevent an unnecessary catastrophe.

The students insisted that it was unconstitutional to disqualify some of the competitors without cause, and they would not accept it.

One of them, Mr. Chibuzo Longinus Ozorinyiegbu, a strong candidate for SUG President, claimed that the management had wrongfully disqualified him for failing to pay the wave for a candidate of their choosing. They blamed this action for the system’s ongoing lack of accountability and transparency.

Journalists were informed by Ozorinyiegbu that he had already secured a court order to prevent the election from proceeding as previously planned.

He claimed that every step of the procedure was flawed, including the election committee’s formation, which did not include faculty participation as mandated by the SUG constitution.

He demanded that the SUG’s constitution be strictly followed throughout the election process because he thought it would give all candidates an even playing field.
