The duration of service for teachers in the state has been increased from 35 to 40 years, while the retirement age has been raised from 60 to 65 by Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru.
The revelation was included in a statement provided to journalists on Friday in Abakaliki, which was signed by Monday Nkwuda, the permanent secretary of the state ministry of education.
According to the permanent secretary, instructors who retired in May 2023 were covered by the extension.
Mr Nkwuda, in the statement, urged teachers in the government’s employ who retired from May 9, 2023 to take note of the development.

“They should go to the central payroll, state ministry of Finance and Economic Development for recapturing and updating”, the statement read.
The governor had, on various fora, declared that education was a major thrust of his administration.
He had pledged to revamp the teaching aspect of the state’s educational system to ensure qualitative education.
